The Tortoise and the Hare

The Hare was once boasting of his speed before other animals. "I have never been beaten," said he, "when I put forth my full speed. I challenge any one here to race with me."

The Tortoise said quietly, "I accept your challenge."

"That is a good joke," said the Hare; "I could dance round you all the way."

"Keep your boasting till you've won," answered the Tortoise. "Shall we race?"

So a course was fixed and a start was made. The Hare darted almost out of sight at once, but soon stopped and, to show his contempt for the Tortoise, lay down to have a nap. The Tortoise plodded on and plodded on, and when the Hare awoke from his nap, he saw the Tortoise just near the winning-post and could not run up in time to save the race.

Then the Tortoise said: "Slow but steady progress wins the race."

從前有一只兔子，他在其它動物面前吹噓自己跑得是如何如何的快?！爱斘胰俦寂艿臅r候，我從來沒有被打敗過，”他說，“誰敢跟我比一比?”

“我來跟你跑一場”，一只烏龜沉著地說。

“快笑死我了，” 兔子說，“我一邊跑一邊圍著你跳舞都能贏你”。

“你跑贏了再吹牛吧”，烏龜說，“我們可以開始比賽了嗎?”

于是，他們確定了一條比賽路線和起點。比賽開始，兔子是嗖的一聲就跑得沒影了，但他很快就停了下來?！榱俗尀觚斨浪]把烏龜放在眼里，兔子決定睡上一覺再接著跑?！∵@時，烏龜正一點一點艱難地向前爬著?！‘斖米右挥X醒來，發(fā)現烏龜離終點已經很近了，要追已經趕不上了。

有一天，兔子和烏龜比賽跑步，兔子嘲笑烏龜爬得慢，烏龜說：“總有一天我會贏的?！?

兔子就輕蔑地說：“那我們現在就開始比賽!”

烏龜答應了，兔子大聲喊道：“比賽開始!”

兔子飛快地跑著，烏龜拼命地爬著。

不一會兒，兔子與烏龜已經離的有很大一段距離了。兔子認為比賽太輕松了，它要先睡一會，并且自以為是地說即使自己睡醒了烏龜也不一定能追上它。

而烏龜呢，它一刻不停地爬行，爬呀爬呀，到兔子那里的時候，它已經累得不行了，但烏龜想如果這時和兔子一樣去休息，那比賽就不會贏了，所以烏龜繼續(xù)地爬呀爬呀。

當兔子醒來的時候烏龜已經到達終點了。

龜兔賽跑故事點評

故事里的兔子太驕傲自大了，這是伊索寓言里面的一個小故事。這個故事告訴我們：不可輕易小視他人。虛心使人進步，驕傲使人落后. 要踏踏實實地做事情，不要半途而廢，才會取得成功。
